How to Install Backup Agent on the Sources

0

Installing a backup agent is the last step to installing Zmanda in the backup environment. Backup agents are installed on the sources that are to be backed up or in the same network as the source that needs to be backed up. They help interface the source data to the ZMC.

A backup client can be configured in one of two ways, agent or agentless installations.

  • Agent-based: In the agent-based installation, an executable service is installed directly on the source OS to back up.
  • Agentless: When the source to backup doesn’t contain active processing capabilities like in network-connected storage systems, or all VMs on a hypervisor need to be backed up, an agentless setup can be used.
